Moving With Pets

Moving can be very stressful for the homeowners and can be just as stressful on their pets. Here are some tips that can make that transition easier on you and your pet. First, keep your pet's routine as normal as possible during the packing and moving process. Second, if possible, have a friend or boarding service watch him. If not possible, avoid giving him food or water an hour or two before your trip. Third, if he will be traveling in a pet carrier, make sure there is room for him to stand up and turn around and plenty of ventilation for him to breathe. Remember to use newspaper or other absorbent material in the bottom of the carrier, in case he has an accident. Finally, remember his favorite toy!

Home Automation, What is It?

Home automation is, basically, anything that gives you control over certain aspects of your property from one location, whether that is inside your home or remotely. Home automation systems can be as simple as being able to control some or all of the lights in your home from one control. It can also be quite complex.

Home automation systems can include: lights (both interior and exterior), security systems, home audio systems, home theater systems, heating and A/C systems, and even window draperies and shades. These systems allow you to use one controller inside your home to control these systems. They can also be set up to allow access through the internet or your cell phone. You can even use voice recognition to access some systems.

What's even better than being able to do all these things without getting up? Saving energy costs at the same time. Many of the features, especially lighting systems, can pay for themselves with a 10% energy savings each year.

For more information on home automation system installation and pricing in the Tulsa, OK area, contact Keegan Beck of KMB Enterprises at 918-527-1031 or www.kmbenterprisesllc.com.

Keeping Bugs and Dirt Out of Your Home

We all know that bugs, pests, and dirt can enter our home from doors, windows, cracks, crevices, and just about any other avenue they can find. Here are some ways to control dirt and bugs:

  1. To prevent pests, you can utilize a monthly treatment plan from a Tulsa, Oklahoma pest control service. Treatment plans like these can be very affordable and work very well if you choose the right company. In addition to the common pest control treatment to prevent indoor pests, they can treat for mice, termites, and other pests.
  2. To help prevent dust, upgrade your air filter. The basic flat-panel disposable filters are generally made of fiberglass or polyester and only catch the largest particles, allowing 90% of the particles to pass through and enter your home. By upgrading to a pleated media filter, you can reduce the odors and amount of smaller particles that enter your home. There are even filters that reduce dust, allergens, odors, and much more.
  3. To prevent microorganisms, such as bacteria, algae, and mold, from entering your home through your HVAC system (which is a perfect environment for them), have your system checked regularly to ensure everything is in proper working order. Also, ask your heating and air company about treating your system with an antimicrobial solution, such as BBJ. BBJ can prevent damage caused by plugged drains and can increase the airflow and efficiency of your system by as much as 25%.

Things to Consider When Building a Home!

When building a new home, there are so many decisions to make, from the location and builder, to which carpet and paint to choose. Keep these tips in mind when you decide to build a new home.
  • Location- Work with your Realtor when purchasing land and building your home to make sure that the location you desire will fit your budget as well as the style and size you want in your home. Don't find out after purchasing that you can't do what you want or that the market won't handle your specific plans.
  • Building- Select your builder carefully! Ask for recommendations from your Realtor. After all, they work with builders everyday. Ask builders for referrals and contact them. Ask plenty of questions and don't be afraid to get more than one quote.
  • Products- Once you have purchased land, selected a builder, and begun the building process, there will be many products to choose. Ask about your options and shop around in advance to make sure that you get what you want at the price you want. When selecting roofing products and styles- keep in mind your budget, style of home, and the weather in your area. Remember that by adding ridge vents or using certain materials, you can decrease your energy costs. When selecting flooring products- remember to check wear, stain resistance, and even product type (such as carpet, tile, or hardwood).
  • Mortgage Options- Check with your mortgage company to find out what mortgage options are available to you. For example, can you qualify for a VA or Rural Home Loan? Also, make sure that you know your budget and how much down-payment you have. If you have less than 20% to put down, ask about loans that require smaller down-payments.
